As part of its Housing Brampton strategy, the City of Brampton offers financial incentives to encourage affordable housing development.
Through its city wide Community Improvement Plan (CIP), launched in 2025, the Affordable Housing Capital Grant Program provides funding to both non profit and private developers building either affordable rental housing or affordable ownership units.
This program is designed to help offset development costs and improve project viability for affordable housing projects, while supporting long term affordability in the market.
To qualify:
- Units must meet the City’s defined affordability levels and remain affordable for at least 25 years.
- Applications must be submitted during the development process, between site plan control submission (if applicable) or building permit stage, and before an occupancy permit is issued.
Developers may continue to submit applications for future consideration, as applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Important update on funding
- Current funding is fully allocated, so no new approvals are being issued right now.
- The City expects new funding (through the federal Housing Accelerator Fund) by early 2027.
- Developers can still apply now to be considered when funding becomes available.
