The City of Brampton provides financial incentives to spur development in several key areas to support the broader development goals outlined in Brampton Plan.

The Tax Increment Equivalent Grant (TIEG) is aimed at attracting major office employment including complementary uses such as research and lab space. The TIEG offers a 10-year sliding grant, or rebate, to offset a portion of the property tax increase the business owner will face as part of the new office development.

To be eligible, office uses are to be within these program’s key target sectors:

  • Innovation and Technology
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Health and Life Sciences
  • Advanced Manufacturing

Projects must have a minimum eligible of square footage – 20,000 square feet (1,858 sq m). CIP applications must be received prior to issuance of a building permit. The program provides an opportunity to stack the City of Brampton’s incentives with the Region of Peel’s Major Office Incentives.

Deadline: Applications are being accepted until November 30, 2027.

The City of Brampton offers a Development Charge (DC) Incentive Program that completely waives 100% of the City’s DCs for eligible new office developments, including the office portion of a mixed-use project. The program waives fees to attract investments and stimulate key sectors like technology, health, and professional services.

To encourage the construction of purpose built rental housing the City is reducing development charges for qualifying rental projects.

Under the program, developers can receive development charge discounts of between 50% and 100%, depending on bedroom-type of the rental unit being constructed.

The program applies to purpose built rental apartment buildings of at least 5 storeys, with 4 or more units. To qualify, projects must receive a building permit between September 10, 2025 and November 13, 2026.

The program is available for up to 5,000 eligible rental units on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eligible projects must remain as purpose-built rental housing for at least 25 years.

As part of its Housing Brampton strategy, the City of Brampton offers financial incentives to encourage affordable housing development.

Through its city wide Community Improvement Plan (CIP), launched in 2025, the Affordable Housing Capital Grant Program provides funding to both non profit and private developers building either affordable rental housing or affordable ownership units.

This program is designed to help offset development costs and improve project viability for affordable housing projects, while supporting long term affordability in the market.

To qualify:

  • Units must meet the City’s defined affordability levels and remain affordable for at least 25 years.
  • Applications must be submitted during the development process, between site plan control submission (if applicable) or building permit stage, and before an occupancy permit is issued.

Developers may continue to submit applications for future consideration, as applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Important update on funding

  • Current funding is fully allocated, so no new approvals are being issued right now.
  • The City expects new funding (through the federal Housing Accelerator Fund) by early 2027.
  • Developers can still apply now to be considered when funding becomes available.
