The City of Brampton has introduced the Purpose-Built Rental (PBR) Development Charges (DC) Incentive Program, running from September 10, 2025 to November 13, 2026, to support the creation of more primary, purpose-built rental housing.
Brampton faces a shortage of stable, family-friendly, and long-term rental options. Vacancy rates remain below healthy levels, leaving many residents dependent on basement apartments or rented condominiums. To address this, the PBR DC Incentive Program offers reductions in DCs to make PBR projects more financially viable and to encourage new purpose-built rental apartment construction.
The program provides tiered DC reductions, ranging from 50% to 100% depending on unit type, and is open to purpose-built rental apartment buildings of at least 5 storeys.
For further information, including the full DC reduction breakdown, detailed eligibility criteria, and the program application process, see the City’s PBR DC Program Guidelines.
