Potential CUPE Local 831 Labour Disruption Notice

The Corporation of the City of Brampton has been in active negotiations with CUPE Local 831 to reach a new contract for City of Brampton members. CUPE Local 831 will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01 am on Thursday, November 7, 2024.

As a result of the potential labour disruption, some City services may be affected, as well as Brampton Recreation programs and services. The City is prioritizing its essential and emergency services to support residents, businesses and the community throughout a pending labour disruption.

The City remains committed to negotiating a fair, multi-year agreement that acknowledges the contributions of its CUPE 831 employees while ensuring fiscal responsibility for Brampton's residents and aligning with other CUPE agreements in the Greater Toronto Area.

As of November 7, Recreation centre hours, programs and services may be impacted by the labour disruption.

 Frequently Asked Questions

​In the event a make up day is able to be offered for any missed classes, program participants will be contacted directly. 

​Any facility rentals operating during a building's open time period will continue to be honored. Any impacted rental permit holders will be contacted directly should their rental no longer be able to be accommodated. Should a rental permit be canceled, permit holders we be offered a refund in the form of a credit on the recreation account and the opportunity to rebook. 

​Refunds for any programs or rentals canceled by the City as a result of the labour disruption will be provided in the form of a credit on the recreation account.  ​

Participant and permit holders will receive a prorated refunded for any cancelled program or rental dates only, in the form of credit on the recreation account.

​Concessions will continue to be open at open facilities during their modified ​operating hours.

​ActiveAssist subsidy applications will continue to be accepted and processed during this time. ​Please allow a longer response time for processing applications. Applications can continue to be completed online or submitted to activeassist@brampton.ca. More information regarding ActiveAssist can be found here

​All Recreation tenants will continue to have access to their leased space within recreation centres. 

Fitness members will continue to have access to fitness centre locations under modified hours of operations. Should you wish to pause your fitness membership during this time, you may do so with no penalty by emailing recreation@brampton.ca or speaking to a customer service representative at any community centre location.

​Yes, neighbourhood fitness centre membership holders will be able to access any open fitness centre throughout the duration of the labour disruption. 

​Impacted program participants or rental permit holders will be notified directly via the email and/or phone number on their account, should a program or rental need to be cancelled. 

​Rental bookings will continue to be accepted during this time, should space and time be available. Rental applications can be submitted via facilityrentals@brampton.ca or by calling 905.874.BOOK (2665) Please allow a longer response time for any rental applications during this time.
