Picnic Shelters: Visitor Information

Park and Picnic Area Rules

The following items and activities are not permitted in the park or designated picnic areas:

  • Alcohol, smoking and cannabis
  • Amplified sound or sound-amplifying devices
  • Charcoal barbecues
  • Cooking with oil
  • Food trucks
  • Generators or other power-generating equipment
  • Inflatable structures or bouncy castles
  • Vehicles on grassed areas
  • Open flames or open-flame cooking
  • Tents or shade structures larger than 10 ft. x 10 ft.

Please Note

  • Additional picnic spaces may be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Barbecues and picnics are permitted within designated picnic areas only.
  • Parking may be limited during peak times.
  • Pets must remain leashed and under control at all times, where applicable.
  • Tents and shade structures must be no larger than 10 ft. x 10 ft. and cannot be staked into the ground.
  • Visitors are encouraged to use designated parking areas and pathways only.

Picnic Shelters and Permits

  • Picnic shelters are available by permit only and are rented on a daily basis.
  • Select picnic areas may be available for reservation.
  • Additional picnic tables may be available for rent, subject to availability.
  • There is no designated parking for picnic shelters.
  • Hydro and power access are not available at picnic shelters.
  • Requests to reschedule must be submitted at least 14 days before the rental date.
  • Refunds and rescheduling are not permitted within 14 days of the rental date or due to weather.
  • To obtain a permit or request reservation information, contact the appropriate park booking office.

Visitor Information

  • All patrons and vehicles must leave the park before the posted closing time.
  • Staff may begin providing park closure reminders 30 to 60 minutes before closing.
  • All vehicles must remain in designated parking areas.
  • Carpooling and public transit are recommended during peak times.
  • Gates may close to vehicular traffic during peak periods.
  • Visitors are encouraged to remain on maintained paths and within designated areas.
  • Poisonous plants and natural hazards may be present in unmaintained areas of the park.​

​​Chinguacousy Park Picnic Guidelines

  • ​Limited Picnic tables are available throughout the Park from 7 am to Sunset and available on a first come, first served basis. There is to be no reserving of picnic tables.
  • Picnic Shelters are available for rental, please see information on rentals below.
  • Charcoal BBQs are not permitted.
  • No open flame cooking. 
  • No cooking with oil.​
  • Food Trucks are not permitted at Chinguacousy Park.
  • The use of generator’s are not permitted.
  • The use of sound amplifying devices is not permitted.
  • Inflatable Amusements (i.e. Bouncing Castles) are not permitted within the Park.
  • No Alcohol, Smoking or Cannabis is permitted.
  • Only 10’ x 10’ Pop Tents are permitted and cannot be staked into the ground. Tents must be secured using sand bags or securing to picnic tables to prevent from being blown or knocked over.
  • All vehicles must remain in the designated Parking areas only, no vehicles are permitted to drive on Park Pathway’s or onto grassed areas.
  • Parking is limited and carpooling or use of Public Transit is highly recommended.

Picnic Shelters and Permits

Picnic Shelters with various capacities are available for use by Permit only and are rented out on a daily basis.

  • Picnic Shelter #1
    • Maximum capacity 200 people.
    • Located close to Sandra Hames Centre, Central Playground Area and Spray Pad.
    • 5 Tables provided under Shelter and 3-4 tables on Grass Area.
  • Picnic Shelter #2
    • Maximum capacity 150 people.
    • Located by South Pond on West side of Park.
    • 5 tables provided under shelter and 3-4 tables on grass area.
  • Picnic Shelter #3
    • Maximum capacity 500 people.
    • Located by North Pond and Pavilion area.
    • ​8 tables provided under shelter and 3-4 tables in grass area.
  • Any requests to reschedule date must be completed a minimum of 14 days in advance.
  • Refunds or rescheduling are not permitted within 14 days of the rental, or due to weather.
  • Additional tables may be available for rental, subject to availability. Please inquire at time of booking.
  • There is no power available at Picnic Shelters, and the use of generators is not permitted.
  • There is no designated parking for Picnic Shelters.
