Project Update - 02/03/2025

As part of the 2025 Budget process, the Mayor and Councillors approved the addition of a new Brampton Library branch to the Howden Recreation Centre revitalization project, creating an integrated multi-use community hub for all residents to connect, work and play. The project is undergoing a design review to incorporate the Community Hub model. Please continue to check back regularly for the most up-to-date information and milestones.

What Amenities Will Howden Recreation Centre Offer?
​Construction of a new Howden Recreation Centre is anticipated following the demolition of the existing facility, delivering a modern, approximately 45,000 sq. ft. community hub designed to meet LEED Gold and Net Zero Ready standards. The revitalized centre will feature a multi-sport gymnasium with a FIBA-sized court, change rooms and flexible multi-purpose rooms to support a wide range of programs, meetings and events. Outdoor amenities will include multi-sport courts, play areas, landscaped green spaces, parking and additional site enhancements, along with leased space for a daycare centre.
 
Complementing the recreation offerings, the facility will also include a new Brampton Library branch, providing residents with access to educational resources, programming and inclusive community gathering spaces.​

​This project will renew aging infrastructure, improve accessibility and expand program capacity while directly supporting Initiative 2-1 of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. It advances the integration of parks and recreation services within mixed-use developments through partnerships with institutional and private sector stakeholders, promoting co-location and enhancing operational efficiencies.
