BRAMPTON, ON (January 9, 2020) – The City of Brampton invites all residents to attend the Brampton 2040 Speaker Series, a free and exciting event featuring international leaders who have successfully implemented transformational change in cities worldwide.
At this multi-day event, Bramptonians will hear from and engage with ten renowned speakers on how to move Brampton forward, including David Crombie and Stephen Lewis. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sample dishes from Brampton restaurants (while quantities last) and enjoy local entertainment.
The Brampton 2040 Speaker Series is part of a larger project aimed at developing the Brampton 2040 Plan (new Official Plan). It will be the first of many events that will help transform the Brampton 2040 Vision from a concept of what Brampton will become over the next quarter century, into an actionable plan to guide Brampton’s growth. The Brampton 2040 Plan will guide housing, industry, offices and shops, as well as the infrastructure needed to support a growing city, including streets, parks, transit, schools and recreational facilities.
The Brampton 2040 Speaker Series takes place on four consecutive Wednesdays beginning on January 22, from 7 to 9 pm at the Rose Theatre. Doors will open at 6 pm. The lineup of speakers is:
January 22
Ken Greenberg is an urban designer, teacher and writer. He was previously the Director of Urban Design and Architecture at the City of Toronto and Principal of Greenberg Consultants.
David Crombie was the mayor of Toronto from 1972 to 1978 and chair of the Royal Commission on the Future of the Toronto Waterfront. He went on to serve as president and CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute.

Stephen Lewis has worked as a member of the Ontario Legislative Assembly, leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party, ambassador to the United Nations and the Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF He is co-chair of the Stephen Lewis Foundation and co-founder and co-director of the international advocacy organization AIDS-Free World.
Zahra Ebrahim is Executive Advisor to Deloitte on Cities, Design and Governance, and a senior advisor to political and public interest initiatives across Canada.

Brad King is Vice President with Lord Cultural Resources, where he has led or contributed to more than 200 museum planning projects in over 15 countries.
Gil Penalosa is the Founder and Chair of non-profit organization 8 80 Cities and Ambassador of World Urban Parks. He advises decision makers and communities worldwide on how to create vibrant cities and healthy communities for all, regardless of age, gender, ability and social, economic, or ethnic background.
Pamela Blais is an urban planner and Principal of Metropole Consultants Ltd. She focuses on creating better cities by integrating planning, economic and environmental thinking in analyzing urban issues and developing innovative policy.

Ian Lockwood is a Livable Transportation Engineer who has applied his expertise in “city structure” (i.e., street network and open spaces) to help many urban and suburban places achieve better outcomes.
Dan Burden is Director of Innovation and Inspiration at Blue Zones and cofounder and former Executive Director of the Walkable and Livable Communities Institute, a nonprofit organization that works throughout North America and the world to create healthy, connected communities.
Joe Minicozzi is an urban planner imagining new ways to think about and visualize land use, urban design and economics. In 2017, Joe was recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Urbanists of all time.
