The City celebrates Emancipation Day with food truck festival

​FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BRAMPTON, ON (July 23, 2021) – On August 1, the City of Brampton invites you to celebrate Emancipation Day, recognized globally as the day to commemorate the abolition of slavery of people of African descent. The event will begin with an in-person flag raising at Ken Whillans Square at 10 am, followed by a food truck festival, including music and entertainment, from noon to 8 pm in Emancipation Park, 7599 Dixie Road. Advanced registration is required to participate.

City of Brampton prepares to safely move to Step Three of Province’s Roadmap to Reopen on July 16

Following the Government of Ontario’s announcement today, the City of Brampton is preparing to safely move to Step Three of the Province’s Roadmap to Reopen Friday, July 16 at 12:01 am. This step comes thanks to the dedicated efforts of our community and Ontario’s health care partners. As of July 8, 2021, over 77 per cent of the population in Ontario ages 12 and over have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and over 50 per cent have received their second dose. More than 16.6 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered provincewide.

Ryerson University receives funding from the City of Brampton for School of Medicine; $1 million in funding from the City will help fund Ryerson’s School of Medicine proposal

Today, Brampton City Council voted in favour of a $1 million planning grant to help fund a future School of Medicine in the city. The funding decision followed a presentation by Ryerson University President Mohamed Lachemi, and will be utilized to support an official proposal to the Ontario Government.
