What is an Inspection Recall Fee?
Effective July 21, 2025, a new Inspection Recall Fee applies to Additional Residential Unit (ARU) permits. ARU permits include Two-Unit Dwellings, Three-Unit Dwellings, and Garden Suites.
If an inspection does not pass on two separate occasions, a fee will be charged for any following inspections.
The fees are intended to encourage inspection readiness and reduce repeat visits.
Which inspection results cause the Inspection Recall Fee to be charged?
The initial Inspection Recall Fee will be charged for a permit when an Inspector enters an inspection result of
Not Pass or
Construction Not Ready, or a combination of these two results. For example, the following combinations of inspection results will cause the initial fee to be charged:

The Inspection Recall Fee not only applies to the third attempt, but also for any subsequent attempts for the same inspection type for that permit.
How much is the Inspection Recall Fee?
The current Inspection Recall Fee is $115.16. It is possible to be charged this fee on different inspection types and multiple times on the same inspection. If an inspection does not pass on two separate occasions, the fee will be charged for any following inspections.
What types of permits are subject to the Inspection Recall Fee?
The Inspection Recall Fee applies to Additional Residential Unit (ARU) permits. ARU permits include Two-Unit Dwellings, Three-Unit Dwellings, and Garden Suites. At this time, all other permit types are not subject to the Inspection Recall Fee.
Why is it necessary to charge an Inspection Recall Fee?
Inspection Recall Fees are intended to encourage inspection readiness and reduce repeat visits. This will improve the service levels for all Building Permit Application customers by reducing unnecessary inspection trips and allow Building Inspectors to make a more efficient use of their time.
Can I schedule my other inspections and pay the fee later?
No. You must pay the outstanding Inspection Recall Fee first if you want to be able to book any other inspections. All future inspections will be
unavailable for booking until the outstanding Inspection Recall Fee is paid. Any future inspections booked on that individual permit will all be automatically cancelled. You will need to re-book them.
How do I pay the Inspection Recall Fee?
Under
My Issued Permits, click on the
Detail button beside the permit you were notified had an Inspection Recall Fee. Click the
Process tab. Click the
Pay Inspection Fee button next to the inspection that has a payment waiting. You will be able to enter your credit card information to make payment. Make sure the postal code you enter on the payment page matches the postal code on your credit card billing information.
Will the Inspection Recall Fee ever increase?
Yes, all Building Division Fees are indexed annually on February 1st of each year. The fee may increase on this date.
Who can pay the Inspection Recall Fee?
The Applicant or Owner can log in to the Brampton Building and Business Portal – www.brampton.ca/bbportal – to make payment for an Inspection Recall Fee. If a Contractor was added to your permit, the Contractor can also make payment. If a Contractor is accessing the portal as Guest with the Permit Number and Authorization Key, they will not be able to make payment.
It is up to the Applicant and Owner to determine who is responsible for paying the fee. The City of Brampton is not responsible for disputes over payments between Applicants, Owners and Contractors.
Why did the Start of Construction inspection schedule automatically?
When an Additional Residential Unit (ARU) permit is issued, the following inspections will be automatically scheduled 10 business days after the date of issuance. ARU permits include Two-Unit Dwellings, Three-Unit Dwellings, and Garden Suites.
