Project Details

Brampton Transit is currently one of the fastest growing transit systems in Canada, providing service on 72 routes using 438 buses operating out of two major facilities. In 2018, the system provided 31.2 million trips within the city and to adjacent municipalities in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area. Since 2009, ridership on Brampton Transit has tripled, and over the past 5 years, ridership has grown by 62%, despite an increase of only 12% in population.

The City plans to expand the fleet from 438 to 513 buses by 2022, and as a result, additional garage infrastructure will be required. Brampton Transit has identified a parcel of land at Highway 50 and Cadetta Road that is suitable for a new facility. The City already owns part of the parcel of land and is in the process of acquiring an additional parcel adjacent to the existing City owned land. To facilitate the building of a new facility, an Environmental Assessment in accordance with Ontario’s Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP) is required.

Timeline

The study is scheduled to be completed by May 2021. Consultation will be conducted through out the study, giving the community opportunities to review alternative design concepts and to provide feedback. Preliminary timelines for Public Open houses and other consultations are as follows:

• Open House #1: November 18, 2019
• Virtual Open House #2: June 17 - July 15, 2020
• Notice of Transit Project Assessment Process (TPA​P)​: November 19, 2020
• Virtual Open House #3: January 21 - February 4, 2021
• Notice of Environmental Project Report Completion: March 18, 2021
• Environmental Project Report (EPR) Review Period: March 18 - April 19, 2021​
• Completion of Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP): May 2021
