Affordable Transit Program

​​Brampton Transit is a participant in the Peel Region’s​ Affordable Transit Program.

The Affordable Transit Program provides you with 50% discount on bus fare for 12 months if you are a resident of Brampton, Caledon or Mississauga.

Brampton Transit: Adults living in Brampton or Caledon have a choice to apply for 50% discount on a monthly pass or a single fare. Youth 13 to 19 years can apply for a 50% discount on a single fare. Seniors living in Caledon can apply for a 50% discount on a single fare.

MiWay: Adults living in Mississauga have a choice to apply for a 50% discount on a monthly pass or a single fare. Youth 13 to 19 years can apply for a 50% discount on a single fare.

​In addition, Affordable Transit Program members from Peel Region that purchase an adult monthly pass will automatically be included as part of the GO Transit Affordability Pilot Program. GO Transit will reimburse 50% of a GO Transit adult fare for customers who are a part of the program and purchase an Adult monthly pass. The reimbursement will apply to any trip on a GO train or bus and will not have to begin, end or include travel within Brampton.

Brampton and Caledon residents earning an income below the Low Income Measure (LIM) thresholds are eligible to apply for the subsidy. Applications will be accept​ed on a first come, first serve basis.

FAQs

The Affordable Transit Program is a partnership between Peel Region, the City of Brampton, the Town of Caledon and the City of Mississauga. The program subsidizes 50% of the cost of an adult monthly PRESTO pass and starting April 1 single PRESTO fares for adult, youth and seniors (in Caledon only) for low-income individuals in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. ​

Any individual, over the age of 20,​ currently living in Brampton and earning an income below the Low Income Measure (LIM) thresholds are eligible for the program. Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, a landed immigrant, or have applied for permanent residency, sponsorship, or refugee protection in Canada. The program has been available in Mississauga since February 1, 2018 and in Brampton as of May 1, 2018. The new program updates to include Caledon and discount on single fares will be available on April 1, 2026. ​

1. A registered PRESTO card. If you do not have a card, you can purchase one at any Brampton Transit termi​​nal or facility, or online at www.prestocard.ca​

Important: Applicants must successfully complete the card registration process prior to attending a Brampton Transit facility in order to obtain the discount on their PRESTO card. Brampton Transit is not able to apply the discount to unregistered cards.

2. The current Notice of Assessment (NOA) for yourself and all applicants over the age of 18. If you do not have your NOA, you can request a replacement from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) at 1-800-959-8281, or contact the Region of Peel at 905-791-7800 for assistance.

3. If you are a newcomer and have not filed taxes, you may submit one of the following:

  • Confirmation of Permanent Residence document
  • Protected Person Status document
  • Refugee Protection Claimant Document

You will also need to submit a document supporting your income, such as a:

  • Resettlement Plan;
  • ​Statement showing support from Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) or a federal/private sponsor; or
  • Pay stub/letter from your employer detailing your wage.

Once you have completed your application and have submitted all the necessary Notice of Assessments, you will receive an approval email (or denial if not eligible) from the Peel Region within 20 business days.

The discount is valid for 12 months from the date you receive approval confirmation. Once the approval period ends, the cost of the monthly transit pass will return to full price. To continue to receive the subsidy, you will have to reapply.

Yes, however the discounted transit pass is only valid on Brampton Transit and GO Transit.

When you tap your card on Brampton Transit, you will receive a two-hour transfer that is valid from the time of issue.

If you have travelled outside of Brampton with a transit pass, and your two-hour transfer has expired, you will be required to pay the full fare of the other service provider using cash or PRESTO card balance for your return trip, unless you are travelling with GO Transit. Bring your registered PRESTO card to any Brampton Transit terminal or facility​ to purchase your pass and have it loaded onto your card.

After the ATP discount has been loaded, you may then purchase your monthly pass at the discounted rate at any Brampton Transit location, or online at www.prestocard.ca​

No, Mississauga residents can only apply for discounted passes on MiWay and Brampton and Caledon residents can only apply for discounted passes on Brampton Transit. ​
