The City of Brampton inspects and maintains over 180 stormwater ponds across the city. These ponds play a critical role in managing runoff, reducing flooding and erosion, improving water quality, and protecting local ecosystems. As runoff flows over hard surfaces like roads, driveways, and parking lots, it collects pollutants such as dirt and oil. Stormwater ponds act as a buffer, allowing sediment to settle before cleaner water flows into local rivers and creeks.
Regular maintenance is essential to ensure that stormwater ponds continue to function effectively. Activities such as sediment removal, vegetation management, and infrastructure updates help ensure the pond’s ability to store and treat stormwater.
By maintaining this critical infrastructure, stormwater pond maintenance projects help preserve pond functionality, improve water quality, and support the overall health of the natural environment.
