Transit to Simpson Channel Dredging and Restoration Project

As part of the City's ongoing restoration projects, the City is undertaking a channel restoration project between Transit Pond (T114) and Simpson Pond (T37), located near Sandalwood Parkway West and Hurontario Street.

The approximately 300-metre stormwater channel restoration project will remove accumulated sediment and restore the channel to improve drainage and water flow within the stormwater system.

To complete this work, the City has engaged Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) to implement the dredging and restoration activities within the stormwater channel.

Project Overview

  • Transit Pond (T114) and Simpson Pond (T37) are key components of the City of Brampton’s stormwater management system near Sandalwood Parkway West and Hurontario Street.
  • Transit Pond (T114) manages stormwater from nearby industrial areas, while Simpson Pond (T37) manages stormwater from both industrial and residential areas.
  • The approximately 300-metre stormwater channel connecting the two ponds is intended to convey runoff between the facilities.
  • Over time, sediment buildup, dense vegetation growth, and invasive plant species such as Phragmites have reduced the channel’s capacity and restricted water flow.
  • Dredging and restoration are needed to restore the flow and maintain the long-term performance of the stormwater system.

This restoration project will include:

  • Removal of accumulated sediment
  • Clear excess vegetation, including Phragmites and cattails
  • Regrade and reshape the channel to improve water flow and drainage

Project Timeline

The project is anticipated to be completed by Spring 2027

Project Map

During construction, sections of the Sandalwood Parkway West shoulder will be temporarily fenced to accommodate site access and staging. Minor traffic or pedestrian disruptions may occur, with appropriate signage and detours provided where required.

Efforts will be made to minimize disruption to the surrounding area.
