Project overview:

Drinkwater pond is a stormwater pond located in Drinkwater Community Park east of Chinguacousy Rd and Drinkwater Rd in Brampton. The pond is connected to the Churchville Tributary of the Credit River as shown on the map below. Stormwater ponds, including Drinkwater pond, are constructed to temporarily store stormwater runoff so that it does not cause flooding. Stormwater runoff is the rain and melted snow flowing from hard surfaces like parking lots, roofs, sidewalks roads, and driveways.

Water levels in Drinkwater pond are currently higher than usual due to a possible blockage in the outlet of the pond. The City will initiate remediation works at the pond in the fall of 2022 to lower pond water levels and ensure all drainage systems are operational. The City will also repair the damaged fence surrounding the pond this summer.

Pond safety information:

The public should not cross the fence and enter the pond area for safety reasons including:

  • High water levels and rapidly changing water levels in the pond;
  • Steep, slippery, and unstable slopes surrounding the pond and creek;
  • Increased risk of slips, trips, falls, causing injury;
  • Increased drowning risk from slipping and falling into the pond; and
  • Risks associated with trespassing on the active CN railway line next to the pond.

Please follow these safety tips at Drinkwater pond:

  • In case of emergency call 911.
  • Do not cross the fence and enter the pond area.
  • Obey the signs.
  • Stay on paved trails when walking near the pond.
