Royal Canadian Legion 100th Anniversary

For 100 years, the Royal Canadian Legion has supported veterans, military members, RCMP members, military families and communities across Canada through remembrance, advocacy and service. In 2026, the City of Brampton is proud to recognize this remarkable milestone while celebrating the lasting contributions of the Royal Canadian Legion's two Brampton branches – Major William Dwight Sharpe Branch 15 and Branch 609.

This year also marks the 100th anniversary of Major William Dwight Sharpe Branch 15, making 2026 an especially significant year for Brampton's veteran community.

Throughout the centennial year, the City and the Roya​l Canadian Legion are working together to honour a century of service through commemorative initiatives, community events and remembrance activities that recognize the dedication, sacrifice and volunteerism of Legion members – past and present.​

The City's Commemoration

The City has partnered with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15 and Branch 609 to recognize the Legion's centennial anniversary through initiatives that celebrate its legacy while engaging residents across the community.​​

Beginning July 17, 2026, commemorative activities will take place throughout the city and continue through Remembrance Day in November.

Commemorative flower beds at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15 and Branch 609 have been revitalized to serve as living tributes to a century of service and remembrance.​

Public Art Installation

A commemorative mural by B​rampton artist Chelsea Charles is displayed on the Tourism Office windows outside the main entrance to Brampton City Hall. The artwork reflects the history, sacrifice and community spirit that have defined the Royal Canadian Legion for generations.​

Brampton Transit Recognition

Residents will see the Legion's centennial recognized across the city th​rough transit shelter advertising and a dedicated Brampton Transit bus wrap, helping raise awareness of the anniversary and commemorative events.​​

Community Events an​d Ceremonies

The City continues to work closely with Branch 15 and Branch 609 to sup​port anniversary ceremonies, community open houses, barbecues and other commemorative programming throughout the year.

The City's 2026 Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 11 will include a special Freedom of the City Parade recognizing the Royal Canadian Legion's 100th Anniversary.​

Major William Dwight Sharpe Branch 15

Named after Major William Dwight Sharpe, a ​veteran who served with the 234th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War, was a Town Councillor, a local Doctor and National President of the Great War Veterans Association, Branch 15 has proudly served Brampton for 100 years.

Its centennial provides an opportunity to recognize generations of members and volunteers whose commitment has helped shape both the Legion and the Brampton community.​​

Remembrance remains central to the Royal Canadian Legion's mission.

Throughout the centennial year, residents are encouraged to pa​rticipate in commemorative events, learn about the stories of local veterans and volunteers, and reflect on the values of courage, sacrifice, service and peace that continue to shape our community.

Together, we honour a century of serv​ice and celebrate the enduring legacy of the Royal Canadian Legion in Brampton.​​​​
