Peter Robertson was first elected to Brampton City Council in 1976 as a Regional Councillor. In November 1991, he was elected Mayor of Brampton, a position he held with distinction until 2000. Throughout his tenure, he was admired for his unwavering commitment to education, community development, and civic engagement. His leadership helped guide Brampton through a period of significant growth, always with a focus on improving quality of life for residents.

Beyond his political achievements, Peter was a passionate lifelong educator. He served as a professor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Education, where he inspired and mentored future generations of teachers. His influence extended far beyond the classroom, as he worked tirelessly to promote the value of learning and civic responsibility in every facet of public life.

Peter will be remembered not only for his contributions to public service, but also for his integrity, compassion, and dedication to community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched—as a teacher, a leader, and a friend. On behalf of the City of Brampton, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a city that is better because of his service.
