Frequently Asked Questions

This project aligns with the City’s commitment to winterizing outdoor amenities, a key objective of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and a priority in the 2025 City Budget, which invests $23 million in providing residents of all ages with an opportunity to learn, play and grow year-round.

Construction started in October 2025 and is anticipated to be completed in 2026.

Yes, the north entrance to the existing parking lot from Eastbourne Drive will be impacted to accommodate construction set up. Temporary adjustments will be made to ensure safety and minimize disruption and signage will be in place to guide visitors accordingly.

Yes, the park pathway along the north side of the parking lot will be temporarily reduced or closed during construction. To support pedestrian access, alternate walking routes will be available and clearly marked. These include sidewalks along Eastbourne Drive, the front of the recreation centre and behind the tennis courts. Two pathway segments will also be re-routed and reconnected to the existing pathway to maintain safe and accessible connections throughout the site.

The dome will be seasonal and remain up between November and April of each year.

During construction, the following amenities will remain open and unaffected:

  • Fitness station
  • Cricket field
  • Soccer field
  • Overlay soccer field
  • Baseball diamond

The following amenities will be temporarily unavailable:

  • Three tennis courts (including the outdoor winter ice rink)

The City has actively engaged the community and gathered valuable feedback through a variety of public engagement opportunities. Residents were invited to share their input and ask questions at staff information booths during several community events, including the Community Services Road Show Expo and the Balmoral Recreation Centre grand opening in Spring 2025. Feedback has also been ongoing at the public display at Earnscliffe Recreation Centre.

In addition, the project was included as part of the 2025 City Budget engagement process, providing another opportunity for residents to learn about the initiative and share feedback on City priorities.

In developing the project scope, we also collaborated with multiple user groups and subject matter experts to ensure diverse perspectives and informed decision-making.

This project aligns with the City’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which guides the creation of new amenities and facilities based on community needs and resident input. As part of the planning requirements and Site Plan review process, the proposed project scope, along with early layout and design concepts, has also been shared with the Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (SNAP) team at the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) for the Bramalea SNAP.  A construction notice was delivered to residents in the surrounding neighbourhood to inform them of the project.

Earnscliffe Recreation Centre remains open to welcome visitors. Please follow all posted signage and exercise caution to ensure the safety of all patrons.

Programs are proceeding as scheduled and amenities remain available. We encourage visitors to arrive early, carpool or consider alternate transportation when possible.
