The City of Brampton acquired the Orangeville-Brampton Rail Corridor in July 2022. The railway portion within Brampton's municipal area is over 14 km, and will connect the City of Brampton to the City of Mississauga, the Town of Caledon, and the Town of Orangeville. To complete this multi-year project, the City is collaborating with the Region of Peel, neighbouring municipalities, and the Conservation Authorities to create a united "Rail to Trail" vision.

This recreational trail is envisioned to provide neighbourhoods with active transportation connections, programmed amenities, and landscaping. Converting the existing rail corridor will allow the City to facilitate its Brampton 2040 Vision and support the goal of creating a mosaic of sustainable urban places that promote physical and mental wellness and encourage active transportation such as walking and cycling.
