Key to the City Presented to His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, The Olu of Warri, Nigeria.


On June 6, 2022, Mayor ​Patrick Brown awarded the Key to the City to His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, The Olu of Warri, Nigeria.

Ògíamẹ̀ Atúwàtse III is the 21st Olú of Warri, who ascended the throne of his forefathers on August 21, 2021, as the youngest Olú in over 500 years.

Mayor Brown noted “As a leader, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III believes in dialogue as a way forward in conflict resolution and engaging with the community, and he is a firm believer in implementing infrastructure development, building trust between communities and companies and providing opportunities for Nigerian based organizations and contractors. As the Mayor of Brampton, these same pillars ring true for me.”

During his visit, His Majesty provided remarks at Brampton City Hall, and enjoyed a performance from the Canadian Itsekiri cultural group. Olori Aiyivieruewinoya ‘Ivie’ Emiko-Atuwatse, known as Olori Atuwatse III, Queen of the Warri Kingdom, and elected members of the Nigerian delegation joined him, as well as Members of Brampton City Council.

The Key to the City is a symbolic honour that the City of Brampton bestows upon a highly valued member of the community, or a celebrated or dignified guest of the City, who has made an impact on the lives of people living in Brampton. It is presented at the discretion of the Mayor.
