We want to capture the voices and needs of all Brampton residents of Caribbean, Black, South American and African heritage, to help the Black community advance. Help shape a five-year action plan and eradicate systemic anti-Black racism within the City of Brampton.

About the Black Empowerment Unit

The Black Empowerment Unit is leading the City of Brampton’s work to cut systemic anti-Black racism and uplift the social, cultural and economic position of Brampton’s Black residents, including those of Caribbean, African and diasporic heritage.

The Unit oversees:

  • Cutting systemic anti-Black racism through policy, progra​mming and public engagement.
  • Supporting Black economic development, youth empowerment and cultural celebration.
  • Creating equal access to employment, education and entrepreneurship.
  • Partnering with government, business and​ community organizations to co-design effective solutions.

Our approach is rooted in collaboration, consultation and community-led decision-making.
