Riverwalk is a transformative project for the City of Brampton. As part of efforts to keep the community informed of the progress being made on the project, the City has engaged with interested parties in several ways, such as a neighbourhood direct mail campaign, installing site signage, and providing updates on the project webpage. More communication activities are being planned for the coming months as work progresses. Construction of flood protection will begin late Fall 2025 and be completed in 2028.

Environmental Assessment
An Environmental Assessment (EA) is a planning and decision-making process, prescribed by Provincial legislation, that identifies a preferred solution that will reduce the flood risk to the downtown core, while considering opportunities for revitalization and ecological benefits.
An
addendum to the approved EA for the Downtown Brampton Flood Protection project focused on the CN crossing area has been completed (see also the
Documents and Reports page) and the
notification was posted and made available for review by interested parties.

Property Acquisition Process
Property acquisition is a necessary component of Riverwalk completed in alignment with the Environmental Assessment (EA) and as directed by Council.
Preparatory Activities
Certain preparatory activities are required prior to the commencement of the DBFP project full construction later.
Further communication will follow regarding various construction items, staging, traffic management. Measures will be taken for noise, vibration, dust control as per city’s regulations and practice. Check this site often for updated information.
The Downtown Brampton Flood Protection project is set to deliver significant environmental improvements to the area. Plans are being prepared for vegetation replacement that will remove invasive species, increase native cover, improve biodiversity, enhance wildlife habitat, ultimately boosting ecological functions and providing environmental benefits.
