Recreational Cannabis Information
On November 1-4, 2018, Environics, on behalf of the City, conducted a scientifically valid telephone survey seeking residents’ opinion on whether cannabis retail stores should be allowed to operation open in Brampton. A total of 910 interviews were completed. The survey sample was representative of the City’s demographics in age and gender. The margin of error of this survey is +/- 3.2%, 19 times out of 20.
When asked about whether they support or oppose the city allowing cannabis retail stores, the result showed a majority of respondents support retail stores with:
•54% strongly or somewhat support;
•40% strongly or somewhat oppose; and
•6% undecided.
When respondents were asked to identify their preferred way of obtaining recreational cannabis:
•62% preferred to make the purchase from a legal private retail store;
•29% preferred to make the purchase online via the Ontario Cannabis Store; and
•9% would grow their own.

In-person Survey: Staff were at various locations across Brampton. You had your say by filling out a survey form, which was available in English, French, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil and Gujarati.

Town Hall: On January 10, between 7 and 9 pm, the City conducted a presentation and panel discussion at City Hall Conservatory. This event was also streamed live on Facebook.

January 14, 2019
Telephone Townhall: On January 14, between 7 and 8 pm, by random selection process, several households in Brampton received a call on their landline to join a telephone townhall with the Mayor. Participants asked questions or listened in on the call. Those who did not receive the call could still submit their input by emailing
cannabis@brampton.ca until January 21, 2019. All feedback received was important in helping inform Council’s decision.

Special Council Meeting: On January 21 at 7 pm, there was a Special Council Meeting about retail cannabis stores in Brampton.
