Residents invited to get active, connect and explore parks and recreation opportunities across the city this June
BRAMPTON, ON (June 5, 2026) – Residents are invited to step into their neighbourhood parks, recreation centres and public spaces to discover new ways to move, connect and support their well-being as the City of Brampton marks June is Recreation and Parks Month. The City is celebrating the month with free drop-in programs, outdoor wellness activities and new tools designed to make parks, recreation spaces and green initiatives easier to explore.

Join free drop-in recreation programming
Residents can take part in free drop-in recreation programming offered at facilities across Brampton. The month-long celebration highlights how accessible, low-barrier recreation can help residents try something new, build healthy routines and feel more connected to their community. Free programming opportunities available throughout June include:
- Seniors 55+ programs
- Public swim drop-ins
- Fitness drop-ins
- Public skate drop-ins
- Sports drop-ins

In partnership with Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO) and the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association, this year’s theme, Every Journey Belongs, recognizes how each resident experiences recreation differently, whether through movement, time outdoors, social connection or moments of personal wellness. The theme reflects the many ways recreation, parks and community spaces support physical health, mental wellness and social connection for residents of all ages and abilities.
Celebrate International Yoga Day in Brampton
The City is hosting a free outdoor yoga class in celebration of International Yoga Day on Sunday, June 21. Residents are invited to enjoy an evening focused on wellness, mindfulness and movement in a welcoming outdoor setting.
Date: Sunday, June 21, 2026
Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Location: Mount Pleasant Village Square, 100 Commuter Dr., Brampton, ON
Participants are encouraged to bring a non-slip yoga mat or towel and a water bottle. Registration is not required. Residents are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item in support of a local food bank.
Additional community events taking place this June include:
- Seniors Month – Throughout the month, the City is encouraging adults aged 55 and older to stay active, connected and engaged through recreation programs, wellness opportunities, community events and social activities across Brampton.
- Springfest – Friday, June 12, featuring the annual Expo and Luncheon for adults aged 55 and older, with entertainment, community engagement and opportunities for seniors to connect.
Seniors Month celebrations are generously sponsored by Ability Home Care Services, Toronto Pearson and Arbor Memorial.

Brampton recognized in global Healthy City Index 2026
Brampton ranked among the top 10 Canadian cities and 129th globally in the inaugural Healthy City Index 2026, an international ranking evaluating urban health, wellbeing and quality of life across 250 cities worldwide.
The recognition reflects Brampton’s ongoing investments in parks, recreation, green space, accessible infrastructure and community wellbeing that support healthy and connected communities for its more than 800,000 residents.
The Healthy City Index evaluated cities across indicators related to health, environmental quality, accessibility, urban infrastructure and overall wellbeing through a multi-stage analysis and validation process.

Across Brampton, parks, trails, recreation centres and community spaces help residents stay active, enjoy the outdoors and build healthy routines close to home The City continues to invest in parks, recreation amenities and public spaces to support healthy, active and inclusive communities.
This year, Brampton launched several new online tools and initiatives to help residents better access, navigate and enjoy recreation opportunities and green spaces, including:
Brampton is home to more than 3,014 hectares of parkland, 860 parks, 690 kilometres of recreational paths, trails and cycling infrastructure offering year-round ways for residents to stay active, spend time outdoors and connect with their community. These initiatives support Brampton’s continued efforts to expand access to quality recreation spaces, improve accessibility and enhance the overall park experience for residents and visitors.
