Frequently Asked Questions

An Artificial Intelligence (AI) Proof of Concept (PoC) is a small-scale prototype designed to solve one of the identified Use Cases. The expectation is for applicants to deliver a working prototype based on the City's use case.

The intent is to test how effectively your AI solution performs within our organization, before proceeding with a full implementation. This way, we can test and validate AI concepts to ensure the solution effectively addresses our business needs.

The AI PoC program is open to Canadian based companies for submissions, who already have an AI solution that can be applied to the program's specified focus areas. Canadian based refers to being incorporated in Canada.

The expectation is for applicants to deliver a working prototype based on the City's use cases.

Yes. Applicants may apply to multiple focus areas; however, a separate application must be submitted for each focus area of interest.

You can make and state your assumptions for your AI POC submission.

For POC submission purposes, please use any data that is available to you. City data will only be provided to vendors that have been selected to move to the next phase.

If required, the City will assist in preparing datasets to support the creation of the AI PoC, while adhering to data privacy and cybersecurity policies.

The Proof of Concept submission should be a detailed proposal that explains how your AI solution works. This could include scope, technology approach, method, timeline and deliverables, risks/mitigation and expected outcomes. You will also be expected to deliver a working prototype based on the City's use case.

A reference for your AI solution could be a current or former client who has successfully used your product, or past projects you have developed that achieved successful results.

This refers to the estimated cost to implement your AI PoC in the City's production environment - including any software or licensing fees, implementation and training costs, and ongoing support or maintenance.

Each submission will be reviewed and evaluated and selected applicants will be contacted regarding next steps.

Success will be measured based on how the solution meets the objectives of the focus area, including scalability to production.

If the AI PoC is deemed successful, the next step will be to go through the City's procurement process. You can learn more about that here: City of Brampton | Doing Business with the City | Understanding Procurement at the City.

You will be expected to deliver a working prototype based on the City's use case.

Typically, for each AI PoC, you will have between two (2) and six (6) months to build the solution. The timeline will depend on the complexity and scope of the use case

Successful applicants that are selected to move forward to the next phase may be compensated for their work, depending on complexity and scope of work.

Any City data used in the development of the PoC solution belongs to the City, but, the Vendor will retain all intellectual property for the rest of the solution that was developed for the AI PoC.
