BRAMPTON, ON (May 16, 2025) – The City of Brampton proudly joins municipalities across North America in celebrating National Public Works Week (NPWW) from May 18 to 24, 2025, recognizing the essential services and dedicated staff keeping cities running safely, sustainably and efficiently.

Public works staff are on the frontlines year-round planning, building, maintaining and responding to the needs of a growing city. This year’s theme, People, Purpose, Presence, highlights the public works staff behind Brampton’s infrastructure and facilities. They are the dedicated individuals who serve with commitment and care to improve the quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors.
The City of Brampton’s Public Works and Engineering department keeps the community a safe and healthy place to live, work and play through various services. They include:
- Managing 50,000 streetlights and more than 600 signalized intersections
- Maintaining over 4,100 lane-kilometres of roads
- Managing approximately 2,000 kilometres of sidewalks
- Supporting stormwater infrastructure to protect homes and natural areas from flooding
- Delivering road resurfacing, pothole repair, signage and pavement marking services
- Providing seasonal street sweeping
- Delivering leaf vacuuming operations
- Stormwater maintenance
- Leading road safety programs and initiatives
- Building construction and maintenance
- Engineering and design
- Emergency response support
- Facility operations
These responsibilities are fundamental to public safety, environmental protection and community well-being.
This year, the City of Brampton will celebrate NPWW with the 22nd Annual Bus Pull, flag raising, a fundraising barbecue for the United Way of Greater Toronto and more staff appreciation events planned for the week. Wellington Street West (Main Street South to Park Hill Court) in downtown Brampton will be closed from 9 am to 1 pm on May 20 for the bus pull event. Traffic will be diverted to alternative routes.
