​Annual Citizen Awards honours residents who made an impact in sports, arts and community service

BRAMPTON, ON (May 9, 2025) – The City of Brampton proudly congratulates the 2024 Citizen Award recipients, recognized last night during a ceremony at The Rose.

Since 1974, the Brampton Citizen Awards program has recognized more than 3,500 residents who have made meaningful contributions to their community or achieved significant accomplishments in the areas of sports, arts and community service.

This year’s awards celebrated individuals in 2024 in the following categories:

The Sports Achievement Award honours residents whose athletic accomplishments were recognized at the provincial, national or international level.

2024 Recipients: Emily and Nathan Chin (Individual), Peel Lady Panthers – U16 (Team)

The Ken Giles Amateur Athlete of the Year Award, presented in partnership with the Brampton Guardian, recognizes an outstanding individual who has made a significant impact and/or exceptional achievement at the amateur level in their respective sport. 

2024 Recipient: Nolen Hickey

The Arts Acclaim Award recognizes individuals whose contributions have had a significant impact in terms of achieving local, provincial, national or international acclaim.

2024 Recipient: Omega Mighty

The Long-Term Service Award recognizes dedicated volunteers whose efforts have made a significant impact towards the development and advancement of recreational sports, the arts and community social services.

2024 Recipient: Harnek Rai

The Inspirational Award​ recognizes Brampton residents who advocate or practice humane action, or who have had an inspirational influence on others.

2024 Recipient: Naz Shaikh

The Citizen of the Year Awards are given to individuals who have demonstrated all-round community involvement rather than specific activity or contribution. This award recognizes local residents who build communities and show what can be achieved with passion and determination. The Citizen of the Year Award is presented to a youth, adult and senior citizen.

2024 Recipients: Eli Craig (Youth), Navdeep Chhinzer (Adult), Rajni Sharma (Senior)
