City of Brampton partners with Habitat for Humanity to invest $6 million to build more affordable housing options

BRAMPTON, ON (November 1, 2023) – Today, the City of Brampton announced a new and welcomed partnership with Habitat for Humanity to bring more affordable housing choices to Brampton. The City is allocating more than $6 million from the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) for two new developments that will bring 27 new homes to Brampton families in need. Construction on these projects is set to begin in 2024, with homes anticipated to be completed by the end of 2025.

The City is experiencing rapid population growth, and this investment will help Brampton meet the housing needs of current and future residents. In addition, this investment is another step toward achieving the City’s Municipal Housing Pledge, a goal of building 113,000 new homes by 2031.

Last month, the City of Brampton and the Government of Canada, announced a $114 million partnership to fast-track the construction of more than 3,150 residential units over the next three years and the development of more than 24,000 homes over the next decade, through the Housing Accelerator Fund. This funding has enabled Brampton to seek other partnerships and opportunities to create more homes for families.

Brampton remains committed to advocating for funding and will continue to seek partnerships to meet ambitious housing targets and to ensure soft infrastructure, including healthcare, transit and transportation, education, and social services, are available to serve the community’s needs. This new partnership with Habitat for Humanity is a testament to the community's spirit of cooperation, innovation, and compassion in making affordable housing more accessible for residents in need.
