Brampton City Council appoints Councillor Harkirat Singh Deputy Mayor for 2022-2026 Term of Council

​BRAMPTON, ON (November 16, 2022) – At its special meeting today, Brampton City Council appointed City Councillor Harkirat Singh, Wards 9 and 10, as Deputy Mayor for the 2022 to 2026 Term of Office.

The Deputy Mayor position is to preside at Council and other Committee meetings and assume ceremonial and civic event duties on behalf of the Mayor if the Mayor is absent or unavailable.

Councillor Singh served on Brampton Council as City Councillor, Wards 9 and 10 for the 2018 to 2022 Term, and prior to his role as City Councillor, he served a four-year term as School Trustee at the Peel District School Board.

In April 2022, the City of Brampton established a Deputy Mayor position that was divided into two representing the east and west portions of the city. Pat Fortini, Regional Councillor, Wards 7 and 8 represented East Brampton and Martin Medeiros, Regional Councillor, Wards 3 and 4 represented West Brampton.
