The demolition of City-owned properties at 30–60 Main Street North is now complete, marking a major milestone in preparing the site for an expanded public space. Construction is now underway to create a new public realm expanding Garden Square and reconnecting the space directly to Main Street.
The enhanced space is expected to reopen in summer 2026 and will feature outdoor seating, expanded gathering areas and improved pedestrian connections between Main Street and Garden Square. The temporary public space will activate the area while long-term plans for Heritage Theatre Block and Southern Blocks continue to advance. The ultimate design for Garden Square is underway following the selection of a design concept led by Canadian architecture firm gh3* in partnership with the international landscape architecture company Mandaworks.
