Biography

Harkirat Singh boasts a diverse and accomplished background, having previously served as a School Board Trustee at the Peel District School Board and as a Professor at Humber College and Lambton College. Currently, he is in his second term as a City Councillor and his first term as Deputy Mayor. He is passionate about city building, politics, and addressing climate change.

During his tenure as a School Board Trustee, he served as a Regional Director at the Ontario Public School Board Association (OPSBA) and Board Member at the Sikh Heritage Month Foundation. As a City Councillor, he held positions as a Board Member at the Brampton Library and as a Consultative Committee Member for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA). Presently, he holds the esteemed position of Research Fellow at the Broadbent Institute.

In his capacity as Deputy Mayor, Harkirat Singh founded the MedTech Task Force and currently serves as its Chair. He also founded and established the Niwaas Campus of Care, a 160 bed Long-Term Care Home, and now Chairs its Fundraising Cabinet. On the international stage, he represented Brampton and Canada at the Urban20 Summit for G20 in Ahmedabad and the Cities of the Americas Summit in Denver.

Harkirat Singh's educational journey includes earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, where he majored in Economics and Public Administration, a Master of Science in Economics from London Metropolitan University, and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business. Additionally, he completed the Diploma in Municipal Administration (Dipl.M.A.) and Executive Diploma in Municipal Management (Dipl.M.M.) offered by the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO).
