This public art initiative is part of the My Neighbourhood Art Project, a series of site-specific, temporary art installations created in collaboration with the local community.

"A Garden of Stories" is a collaborative mural and floral installation that celebrates the power of community spaces to bring people together. Inspired by a two-part workshop with seniors at the Bob Callahan Flower City Seniors Centre, this project honours Brampton's multicultural identity and the stories that connect us.

During the first workshop, participants drew flowers that held personal meaning and shared the memories and experiences connected to them. Their drawings and stories became the inspiration for the mural. In the second workshop, seniors painted enlarged versions of their flower drawings, creating a floral installation that will be displayed throughout the centre's gardens.

At the heart of the mural, a great blue heron symbolizes resilience and quiet strength, while the orange chrysanthemum represents longevity, joy, and good health. Interwoven throughout the design are the seniors' flower drawings, each carrying its own story and significance. On the smaller wall, the two mourning doves symbolize care and home-building, while the blooming peony represents compassion and the richness of life.

Together, the mural and floral installation reflect what community centres do every day: create spaces where people of different cultures, generations, and experiences can gather, grow, and build meaningful connections. This piece is a tribute to the seniors who inspired it and a celebration of the community, creativity, and belonging we witnessed here while working on the mural and collaborating with the people at the Bob Callahan Flower City Seniors Centre
