It takes a village to raise our children and "Communal Flowers" reflects this. This piece is inspired by the Early Childhood Educators at the MNS - EarlyON center, along with the families that have become a fundamental part of my village. I reminisced on the community I have built in Brampton, all the faces I have met through recreational programs, public parks, and libraries.

The flower garden and passing of the flowers is inspired by the quote, "giving them their flowers". The artwork displays members of whom I have met giving each other their flowers representing acknowledgement of each other and appreciation in the value of receiving them.

Another main focus is the children; they are a reflection of us and what we give back to the community. By setting the example of showing gratitude to each other it will encourage them to seek and foster communities for themself in the future. Thus, creating a blossoming effect. "Communal Flowers" demonstrates what a multi-generational and multi-cultural community looks like. The colour scheme was chosen to make the artwork stand out in any season, an infinite cycle.

The purpose of this piece is for the viewer to reflect on the bonds they have created within their communities and serves as inspiration for those who haven’t found a community yet. Inspiration to grant themselves the time to explore this amazing resourceful city, become involved in social events that offer us all an opportunity to build with, and to recognize and honor those within our community.

Carolina Caro is a visual and multifaceted artist, working primarily with gouache and oil. After becoming a mother of two daughters, Carolina explores themes of motherhood and self-identity, all the while pushing the boundaries within her skills. She believes that the mediums and style of work are interchangeable based on the idea that self-identity, community and motherhood isn’t just one specific venture but a multifaceted pursuit that requires reinvention and exploration. Her art is the vehicle to her rediscovery as an artistic individual. Carolina believes the use of different materials, mediums, and styles are unified by three common themes, self-identity, community and motherhood.
