Deadline: March 12, 2026 at 02:00 PM

The City of Brampton ("the City") invites professional artists, creatives, and artist-led teams ("the Artist") to submit Expressions of Interest for the creation of a mural at the Save Max Sports Centre. This opportunity is open to artists living and working in the GTA. Artists with demonstrated connections to the City of Brampton are encouraged to apply.

Community Background

The City of Brampton is situated on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat Nations, who have called this land home since time immemorial. Brampton is also home to many First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and other global Indigenous peoples. Located within the lands of Treaty 19, the Ajetance Purchase, Brampton is also situated along Etobicoke Creek in the Peel Region of Ontario. Known as "Flower City" due to its history in the greenhouse and floriculture industries, Brampton continues to celebrate its agricultural roots with the annual Brampton Fall Fair, a tradition since 1853. Brampton blends its rich history with a thriving recreation and sports scene, featuring extensive parks, community centres, diverse sports leagues (soccer, cricket, hockey), all supported by the City's commitment to active living and youth development. Through an extensive network of Recreation Centres and Parks, the City of Brampton caters directly to a fast-growing and multicultural population.

Project Description

The City is looking to commission four separate artists or artist-led teams to create four unique murals within indoor sports fields at the Save Max Sports Centre. The City would like the murals to highlight local athletes and popular sports in Brampton. Successful artists will be supplied with a detailed scope of work that they will use to create their designs. Subthemes identified for consideration include community and the changing cultural landscape, as recognized through sport.

Please consider:

  • Four separate artists or artist-led teams will be selected to work on this project and will be assigned a sports field to create their mural.
  • Each mural location will focus on a particular sport. The City will supply a distinct scope of work for each mural.
  • Artwork imagery may incorporate athletes from a particular sport who have roots in Brampton and have excelled in their field.
  • Artwork must respond to ideas gathered through community outreach and engagement.
  • The artwork must reflect Brampton's uniqueness, cultural diversity, and passion for sport.

Public Art Location

Murals will be created on indoor walls within each of the four sports fields at The Save Max Sports Centre located at 1495 Sandalwood Pkwy East, Brampton, Ontario.

Budget

The total budget for each mural project is $30,000 in Canadian Dollars, inclusive of HST. This is the maximum available budget to cover all costs associated with implementing the Successful Artist's concept for the artwork, including design process, paint and associated supplies, motorized lift rentals, transportation, insurance, etc.
