Centre Stage alumni are taking over the Friday Night Patio Concert Series on Friday, August 14 for a special evening celebrating the program's lasting impact. The performance will honour the talented young artists, mentors and community members who helped shape Centre Stage's success over the years. Former Centre Stage judge and acclaimed Brampton ​artist Omega Mighty will headline the evening, closing out the celebration and recognizing the program's legacy. Join us on the Rose Patio at 7 p.m. for an unforgettable night of music and community.

About Centre Stage

From first performances to professional stages, Centre Stage has supported Brampton's young artists for nearly two decades. The program has given youth aged 12 to 18 opportunities to develop their performance skills through workshops, rehearsals, professional coaching, and live performance experiences. Along the way, aspiring per​formers connected with professional artists who supported their growth, helped them develop original artistic works, and prepared them to take the stage.

Program Timeline

Status: Past

The Rose Theatre opens in downtown Brampton. The city establishes Centre Stage to provide local youth performance opportuni​ties on professional stages.

Status: Past

The program completes its sixth year of operations. Youth showcase events scale up across the municipality.

Status: Past

The city integrates Centre Stage performers into major civic events. Finalists secure performance slots at public Canada Day celebrations, New Year'​s Eve events, and the local Farmers' Market.

Status: Past

Public health restrictions halt live performances. The city partners with Brampton Library Culture Days. Performers move to a digital format; they broadcast monologues and short f​ilms online.

Status: Past

The city welcomes audiences back to Lester B. Pearson theatre for the Centre Stage showcase with sold out shows for both the school a​nd the evening public performance. The beloved program shifted from talent showcase to a professional mentorship framework.

Status: Current

The city celebrates the program with a special performance at the Rose Patio on August 14, 2026: The Gen Z Takeover. Savanah Taveira Sobers, Holden Burgers, Jamelia Russell, and Zeina Althea curate the show. Dontae Nathan hosts the event.

For almost two decades, Centre Stage has supported hundreds of young aspiring artists as they explored their creativity and gained experience in the performing arts. Notable alumni include:

Rhyan Douglas

Brampton singer and songwriter Rhyan Douglas has developed a distinct folk-soul sound and worked with established artists and producers, including Leon Thomas, 6LACK, No I.D., and WondaGurl.

Tre Carty

Tre Carty is a multi-disciplinary performer who spent three years with the Toronto Raptors Lil' Ballas Dance Team and two years as a Mini Pop Kid, including appearing on Album 17. He has since expanded his career into television and musical theatre.

Rohan Kapoor

Rohan Kapoor is an Indian-Canadian singer, songwriter, and music composer whose music has reached audiences across North America, South America, Asia, and Europe. His work has also been featured by CBC News, where he was recognized as an emerging artist.

Cameron Tania

Brampton-raised singer-songwriter and performance coach Cameron Tania has built a career in music and arts education. A recipient of the 2022 Oshawa Music Award​s Songwriter of the Year award, Cameron continues to support emerging artists through vocal coaching, performance workshops, and artist development.
