Accessible Unit Attendant

Time Commitment:

Prior to Voting Day: Position training and material review

Voting Day: Monday, October 24 (8 am to 10 pm)

Compensation:

$272 flat-rate payment (includes hours worked on Voting Day, and training and other duties prior to Voting Day)


Reporting to the Location Supervisor, responsible for the operation of the accessible voting unit and assisting voters in using the unit to mark their ballot independently, ensuring the secrecy of the vote.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend mandatory training session and review all training material prior to Voting Day
  • Arrive at the voting location by 8 am on Voting Day
  • Assist with set-up of the voting location
  • Assist the Location Supervisor with the set-up of the accessible voting unit
  • Assist voters with inserting the ExpressVote ballot into the accessible voting unit
  • Assist voters in using the accessible voting unit and accessible tools in order to mark the ballot independently
  • Troubleshoot any error messages displayed on the accessible vote unit
  • Redirect voter to the Deputy Returning Officer, as required (i.e. replacement ballot)
  • Escalate technical issues to the Location Supervisor, as needed
  • Tally number of voters who use accessible voting unit, as well as accessibility tools 
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workspace by frequently wiping down common surfaces and supplies
  • Assist with closing the voting location

Work Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Must not be:
    • ​A candidate or registrered third party advertiser;
    • An immediate family member of a candidate; or,
    • Actively working in support of or opposition to a candidate in the Brampton Municipal Election

​Selection Criteria:

  • Previous experience as an election official is preferred 
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact with the public tactfully and courteously
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with conflict 
  • General computer skills with ability to troubleshoot basic issues
  • Good command of the English language (both oral and written)
  • Knowledge of additional languages is an asset
