​​​BRAMPTON, ON – Effective April 1, 2026, Brampton property owners will see a two per cent increase to the stormwater charge on their Region of Peel water bill. 

Stormwater, also known as runoff, comes from rain and melting snow flowing off rooftops, driveways and parking lots into Brampton’s drainage system. Across the city, more than 2,014 kilometres of storm sewer pipes and over 180 stormwater ponds work together to move and manage runoff, helping protect homes, businesses and public spaces. Revenue collected from the stormwater charge supports the continued maintenance and long-term replacement of the City’s stormwater infrastructure.

As Brampton grows and experiences more frequent and intense storms linked to climate change, more runoff enters the system. If not properly managed, stormwater can contribute to flooding, erosion, environmental damage and risks to public safety.

The stormwater charge provides dedicated funding for this essential infrastructure. Investment supports daily operations and maintenance along with long-term planning and construction projects to rehabilitate and replace aging systems.

Revenue from the stormwater charge supports cleaning and inspecting storm sewers and catch basins, maintaining stormwater ponds, monitoring system performance, rehabilitating and replacing pipes and investing in capital improvements to meet future needs. ​
