About Brampton’s Backyard Garden Program

Generously sponsored by Scotts Canada, Fieldgate Developments, Mattamy Homes and Paradise Developments, the Backyard Garden Program is designed to help residents cultivate their own fruits and vegetables, improving their well-being and contributing to the community’s fight against food insecurity. As a program participant, individuals receive five bags of soil and a gardening sampler seed pack containing three easy-to-grow seed varieties (lettuce, beans and carrots).

Since 2020, the program has donated more than 20,000 pounds of locally grown produce to local food banks and organizations. Participants are encouraged to donate their surplus produce and give back to those in need.

How to participate

To participate in the 2026 Backyard Garden Program, residents are required to sign up for and attend one in-person workshop beginning on January 26. The Backyard Garden Program is open to Brampton residents, with first-time participants prioritized for registration.

Taking place at Century Gardens Recreation Centre in Community Room 2 on the second floor, the workshops are scheduled on Saturday, February 28 and March 7, from 9 to 11 am and 1 to 3 pm. An online option is available for those with accessibility needs or scheduling conflicts. Attendance is mandatory to receive gardening supplies at the end of March. For questions about attending the workshops, interested participants can contact, bramptongreencity@brampton.ca
