The City of Brampton is seeking artists for a Catchbasin Art Project called “From Streets to Streams”.
The project is a unique initiative that highlights the value of communicating environmental awareness through art in our communities through support from the Brampton Arts Organization (BAO).
A Selection Committee comprised of community members and City staff will select three artists to paint murals around six catchbasins in Brampton this July and August. Artworks will raise awareness and educate the public on how catchbasins connect to the local environment.
Applications for artists close in May, and artwork will be unveiled in the fall of 2023.
Rivers and creeks in Brampton carry stormwater to Lake Ontario, the source of drinking water for over nine million people in Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon. The City of Brampton operates an extensive stormwater drainage system to collect, move and treat stormwater before it releases into the environment. This includes stormwater ponds that trap and retain pollutants before discharging into rivers and creeks. Stormwater in older neighbourhoods without stormwater ponds flows directly into the environment without pollution control.
