City of Brampton prepares to safely move to Step Two of Province’s Roadmap to Reopen on June 30

 BRAMPTON, ON (June 24, 2021) – Following the Government of Ontario’s announcement today, the City of Brampton is preparing to safely move to Step Two of the Province’s Roadmap to Reopen this Wednesday, June 30 at 12:01 am. This step comes two days ahead of schedule thanks to a continued improvement of public health indicators and the Province’s vaccine rollout in partnership with local public health units, health care partners, municipalities, and the ongoing dedication of our community.

As of June 30, the following rules and measures will be in place under Step Two of the Province’s Roadmap to Reopen:

  • Outdoor social gatherings and organized public events for up to 25 people
  • Indoor social gatherings and organized public events for up to five people
  • Outdoor dining for up to six people per table
  • Essential retail capacity at 50 per cent
  • Non-essential retail capacity at 25 per cent
  • Larger indoor religious services, rites, or ceremonies, including wedding services and funeral services, at 25 per cent while outdoors is limited to the number of people that can maintain 2 metre distance
  • Overnight camps
  • Personal care services permitted at 25 per cent to a maximum of 5 people, masks must be worn at all times and appointments are required
  • Outdoor meeting and event spaces is limited to 25 per cent while indoor meetings and event spaces are closed
  • Outdoor amusement and water parks are limited to 25 per cent
  • Outdoor fitness classes are permitted as long as people maintain 3 metre distance
  • Outdoor sports without contact or modified to avoid contact, with some restrictions in place
  • Outdoor sports leagues, games and events are limited to 25 per cent
  • Indoor sports leagues, games and events are not permitted with exemptions for professional athletes/groups/day camps etc.
  • Outdoor cinemas, performing arts, live music events and attractions is limited to 25 per cent

The Province’s Roadmap to Reopen is a three-step plan to cautiously reopen the province and gradually lift public health measures based on the provincewide vaccination rate and improvements in key public health and health care indicators.

City services and facilities

City Outdoor Recreational Amenities
Outdoor recreational amenities available during Step Two include golf courses and driving ranges, soccer and other sports fields, baseball diamonds and batting cages, tennis and basketball courts, lawn bowling and bocce, BMX and skate parks, and wading pools and splash pads. Professor’s Lake beach and Eldorado Park outdoor pool are scheduled to reopen for the season as of June 30, weather and water conditions permitting.

Splash Pads and Wading Pools
City splash pads are open daily from 10 am to 9 pm. The Chinguacousy Park wading pool is open for daily visit as of June 26 from 10 am to 8 pm, weather permitting. Physical distancing is required and residents are asked to self-assess for COVID-19 symptoms before attending. Summer Camps
In-Person Camps
In-person summer camps for children and youth begin July 5. Registration is still available online at www.brampton.ca/reccamps. Camps will include activities such as games, sports, crafts and more, Monday to Friday from 8:45 am to 5:15 pm. The week of August 2 will run as a shortened week due to the public holiday. Fees vary. Call 311 or visit www.brampton.ca/reccamps to register.

Virtual Camps
Virtual camps offer participants ages 4 to 6 and 6 to 10 the opportunity to build new friendships, increase social skills, and work on exciting projects at their own pace while interacting in real-time with their peers and families. Inclusion Virtual Camps will also be available for participants ages 6 to 13 and 14 to 20.  All programs will be led by trained City of Brampton instructors using the WebEx platform.Registration is available at www.brampton.ca/recathome.

Vaccinations
Anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Peel and is 12 years or older can book their first dose appointment.

The time between the first and second dose must be at least 28 days for people 18 years and older, and at least 8 weeks for youth 12 to 17 years of age.

As of June 27, youth 12 to 17 years of age can book or reschedule their second dose
