Brampton Winter Wonderland programming and amenity updates

​BRAMPTON, ON (December 18, 2020) – The City of Brampton will be opening Mount Chinguacousy and cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails on January 2, 2021, weather permitting.

Registration for the four new outdoor skating rinks located at Flower City Community Campus, Valleybrook Park (synthetic ice pilot), Morris Kerbel Park, and Earnscliffe Park will begin the week of December 21.

Pop-up programming, walking path, and outdoor run club dates are now available online at www.brampton.ca/recreation.

Mount Chinguacousy

Skiing, Snowboarding and Tubing


Mount Chinguacousy is Brampton’s destination for skiing, snowboarding and tubing, located at Chinguacousy Park. It will open for the 2021 season on January 2, weather permitting.

Pay-per-visit skiing, snowboarding and tubing will be available by reservation. Limited capacities have been implemented to ensure physical distancing is maintained. Please note that ski and snowboard equipment rentals are not available at this time.

Cross-country Skiing and Snowshoeing Trails
New cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails will be available for use in January at Chinguacousy Park, weather permitting. The trails can be accessed from the Sandra Hames Centre parking lot (Bramalea and Goodwood entrance) and are intended for independent use by residents during regular park operating hours. Please follow posted signage guidelines and maintain safe physical distancing.

Trails are maintained by City of Brampton staff and may be closed due to inclement weather. Please note that equipment rentals are not available at this time.

Weather Alerts and Closures


The hill and trails may close due to inclement weather, including mild and wet conditions or extreme cold (temperatures below -20 degrees Celsius). Residents are advised to check status updates online prior to their visit.

Four additional outdoor skating rinks

The City is installing four new outdoor skating rinks this season located at Flower City Community Campus, Valleybrook Park (synthetic ice pilot), Morris Kerbel Park, and Earnscliffe Park.

Originally targeted to open on December 18, recent warm temperatures have made it necessary to allow additional time for the rinks to be flooded and for freezing to take place.

Gore Meadows Covered Outdoor Skating Rink, Chinguacousy Park Skate Recreational Trail, Gage Park Outdoor Skating Recreational Trail, and Mount Pleasant Outdoor Skating Rink opened on December 10.

Walking Path, Outdoor Run Club, and Pop-Up Programming

Brampton Recreation staff will be offering Walking Path and Outdoor Run Club programs beginning December 19. Residents can enjoy these open-air activities during the winter months, while maintaining physical distancing.

The Walking Path program is intended for all ages and makes for a perfect family-friendly activity. Residents can discover Brampton’s stunning parks and walking paths while attending themed walks on various dates throughout the winter season. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
 
Residents can get outside and active by registering for Outdoor Run Club. This program is suitable for all activity levels, including those new to the sport.

Pop-Up Programming


Gather the family and join us for pop-up programs for the entire family, including Fort Building and Snow Art.

Pop-up programs will be announced two days in advance online and on City of Brampton social media channels.

Health and safety measures & booking your visit

Community health and safety is the City’s top priority, especially during COVID-19. In line with Peel Public Health recommendations, a reservation system is in place for all outdoor winter programming and for visit to all of our rinks and Mount Chinguacousy. This is to ensure capacity requirements are maintained and contact tracing is possible when necessary.

Outdoor Skating


Reservations for outdoor skating are available up to 36 hours in advance. Residents can reserve their spot by:

All reservations are limited to one hour in duration. Reservations are required for all patrons, including parents, guardians or others who are accompanying skaters. Residents are asked to check in with staff at an onsite welcome tent upon their arrival. If you need to cancel your reservation, call 905.791.2240.

Washroom amenities will be available. Masks are required in line-ups and inside of the washrooms. No food or beverages are permitted at the rinks.

Mount Chinguacousy


Reservations for Mount Chinguacousy are available up to 48 hours in advance. Residents can reserve their spot by:

Residents are asked to check in with staff at the ski hill upon their arrival. If you need to cancel your reservation, call 905.458.6555. Washroom amenities will be available. Masks are required in line-ups and inside of the washrooms.
