Remembrance Day 2020 – online service

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the City of Brampton will honour Remembrance Day 2020 online on November 11, alongside Royal Canadian Legion Branches 15 and 609. There will be no in person events this year.

Brampton’s Veterans of War and those who made the ultimate sacrifice will be honoured on the City’s Brampton Remembers webpage and flags at all City of Brampton facilities will be flown at half-mast.

The webpage will go live on November 11 at 10:55 am, featuring a virtual service including the Moment of Silence and Placing of Wreaths, and videos of Brampton veterans on what Remembrance Day means to them.

Brampton Transit

Brampton Transit will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Remembrance Day. Please check schedules before travelling.

War veterans ride free on Brampton Transit on Remembrance Day. A veteran can be identified by producing a Brampton Transit “War Veteran Pass” or any of the following items: medals, berets, a uniform, a blazer, or other means of identification.

The Contact Centre is open and available to assist from 7 am to 9 pm at 905.874.2999.

Terminal building hours at Bramalea, Brampton Gateway and Downtown Terminals are 6 am to 9 pm. Trinity Common Terminal remains closed. Customer Service counters are open and available to assist you, for hours visit www.bramptontransit.com.

A moment of silence will be observed at 11 am on Remembrance Day to honour and remember the individuals who have served, and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict and peace. During this observance, all buses will stop at the nearest safe location.

An enhanced cleaning and sanitizing schedule remains in effect. It is Brampton Transit’s goal to disinfect all hard surfaces, operator compartments and seats every 48 hours. The majority of buses are currently sanitized every 24 hours. Facilities and terminals that have hard surfaces are wiped down and sanitized on a daily basis.

The City urges riders to continue to maintain physical distancing at terminals, and at bus stops, even while wearing a mask, as much as possible. Riders are also reminded to carry their own personal disinfectant when travelling, such as hand sanitizer or wipes, wash their hands often, and cough or sneeze into their elbow. If you’re sick, please refrain from riding transit, get tested at the nearest COVID-19 assessment site and follow public health instructions.

With guidance from Peel Public Health, riders are reminded that non-medical masks covering your nose, mouth and chin are mandatory on buses and terminals. The City of Brampton is working closely with its partners at Peel Public Health and the Brampton Emergency Management Office to continue to monitor risks.

Peel Public Health Reminders for Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is an important observance for Canadians. To commemorate the day safely during a pandemic, Peel Public Health and the Ontario Ministry of Health recommend attending a memorial event virtually.

If selling poppies, the safer way is with unstaffed boxes (e.g., at checkouts or entries). To avoid in-person contact, encourage people to donate to the Legion or purchase a digital poppy online.

If choosing to sell poppies in-person:
• Wear a mask or face covering;
• Have hand sanitizer and use it regularly;
• Wash or sanitize your hands every time after handling cash; and
• Consider not selling if you are at higher risk for serious illness from COVID-19, including if you are 70 years or older, are immunocompromised or have underlying medical conditions.
