City of Brampton postpones adequate heat start date for residential accommodations

Brampton, ON – The City of Brampton advises landlords of rental accommodations to begin heating for residential rental units no earlier than September 22, 2018.

Typically, the Adequate Heat By-law requires suitable heat to be provided by a landlord in rental accommodations starting September 15. However, in view of the weather forecast of 20 plus Celsius for most of September, the City has changed the start date from September 15 to September 22.

This is in line with 2017 amendment to the adequate heat by-law, in which the Director of Enforcement and By-Law Services has Council’s delegated authority to recommend the start date of heating, if required and based on weather conditions.
