BRAMPTON, ON (December 15, 2021) – With the holidays right around the corner, Brampton Fire and Emergency Services encourages everyone to put fire safety at the top of their list.
- Water real Christmas trees daily and keep the base full of water
- Test all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms prior to family gatherings for the safety of yourself and your guests
- Test and inspect all holiday lights and extension cords to ensure they aren’t overloaded and discard any that are frayed or damaged
- Keep all decorations at least 1 metre (3 feet) away from heating equipment or an open flame like candles, a fireplace, or portable heater
- Be aware of any lit candles when you leave a room or go to bed or use battery operated ones instead
- Cooking is the primary cause of home fires. Stay in the kitchen while cooking and avoid distractions.
Brampton Fire and Emergency Services also reminds residents to remain diligent in the fight against COVID-19 this season; continue to maintain good hand hygiene, keep space between yourself and others and wear a mask when physical distancing isn’t possible.
