Community flag raising and reception to celebrate Nigerian culture, heritage and community
BRAMPTON, ON (September 25, 2026) – The City of Brampton, in partnership with One Nigerian Canada, invites residents to join the Nigerian community in celebrating Nigerian Independence Day with a community flag raising and reception on Saturday, October 3.

Nigerian Independence Day Celebration
Residents are invited to join the celebration and learn more about the culture, traditions and heritage of Nigeria while connecting with members of Brampton’s Nigerian community.
Date: Saturday, October 3
Time: 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Location: Brampton City Hall, 2 Wellington St. W.
The celebration will begin at 1 p.m. with a community flag raising in Ken Whillans Square, followed by a reception inside Brampton City Hall at 1:30 p.m. The reception will include remarks from the President of the Nigerian Canadian Association, a fashion display and traditional food.
Nigerian Independence Day is observed annually on October 1 and commemorates Nigeria’s independence in 1960. The celebration in Brampton provides an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and contributions of the Nigerian community. The City of Brampton is proud to support opportunities that bring communities together and showcase the diverse cultures, traditions and experiences that help shape Brampton.
