​Recognition reflects Brampton’s expertise in strategic planning to build a connected transportation network that meets the needs of residents​

BRAMPTON, ON (September 18, 2026) – The City of Brampton’s Mobility Plan has received a 2026 PlanON Vision Award of Merit from the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), recognizing excellence in planning and the City’s forward-looking approach to supporting Brampton’s continued growth.

The PlanON Awards are the highest honour presented by OPPI and recognize exceptional achievements by planning professionals and teams across Ontario. The Brampton Mobility Plan was one of six projects selected to receive a 2026 Vision Award of Merit.

Endorsed by Brampton City Council in September 2025, the Brampton Mobility Plan is the City’s long-term Transportation Master Plan and provides a blueprint for transportation investment. As Brampton continues to grow, the plan identifies the infrastructure, services and operational improvements needed to move more people and goods safely and efficiently while supporting a more sustainable transportation system.

Guided by the City’s Complete Streets approach, the plan looks beyond moving vehicles to consider how Brampton’s streets can better serve everyone, including pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and drivers. By planning transportation and land use together, the City is working to increase the overall capacity of its transportation network and provide residents with more options for how they move around Brampton.​

Planning for Brampton’s growth

The Brampton Mobility Plan responds to the city’s projected population growth with a long-term approach focused on seven guiding principles:

1. Enhancing mobility and travel options for people and goods
2. Improving environmental sustainability
3. Integrating transportation and land use planning
4. Advancing multi-modal transportation equity
5. Protecting public health and safety
6. Leveraging technology
7. Emphasizing community engagement and collaboration
   

Developed through extensive public engagement and technical analysis, the plan builds on Brampton Plan and the Brampton 2040 Vision. The award also recognizes the work of City of Brampton transportation planning staff and project team members who helped develop the plan.
