​BRAMPTON, ON (September 15, 2026) – The City of Brampton is joining communities across Ontario to mark the fourth annual Test Your Smoke Alarm Day on Monday, September 28, as part of the province-wide Saved By The Beep fire safety and prevention campaign.

Every second counts in an emergency and working smoke alarms provide critical early warnings that can increase the chance of surviving a home fire by up to 50 per cent. They are required to be properly installed, tested and maintained.

To mark Test Your Smoke Alarm Day, BFES and community partners will be connecting with residents at three locations across Brampton, offering an opportunity to learn more about smoke alarm requirements, home fire escape planning and simple steps they can take to help protect their families.​

Help build a safer Brampton by taking the pledge to test your smoke alarms every month

By signing the pledge, residents can receive monthly email reminders to test their smoke alarms and help spread the message by encouraging family, friends and neighbours to do the same. Take the pledge online on September 28.​

Protect your home and family from fires

Residents are reminded to:

• Test smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button.
• Replace batteries at least once a year or sooner if the low-battery warning sounds.
• Replace smoke alarms every 10 years.
• Ensure working smoke alarms are installed on every storey of the home and outside all sleeping areas, as required by Ontario law.
• Create a home fire escape plan and practice it with everyone in the household.
