​Appointment fills vacancy for the remainder of the 2022–2026 Term of Council

BRAMPTON, ON (September 1, 2026) – Brampton City Council has appointed Gael Miles, who previously served as Regional Councillor for Wards 7 and 8, to return to the role for the remainder of the 2022–2026 Term of Council.

The appointment was made at a Special Meeting of Council on August 31, 2026, following the vacancy created by the resignation of Regional Councillor Pat Fortini.

Miles will serve as Regional Councillor for Wards 7 and 8 until the end of the current Term of Council on November 14, 2026.​

​About Gael Miles 

Gael Miles brings 30 years of municipal public service and extensive experience representing the Brampton community. First elected to Brampton City Council in 1988, she became a Regional Councillor for Wards 7 and 8 in 1991 and served until her retirement from municipal politics in 2018.

Throughout her time on Council, Miles advocated for safe, healthy and connected communities, supporting initiatives focused on strong neighbourhoods, community involvement and quality of life. Her leadership contributed to Brampton’s recognition as a Safe City and Flower City and supported broader efforts to strengthen civic pride and community well-being.

Miles was also instrumental in establishing Wellspring Chinguacousy, a community-based cancer support centre providing free programs and services to individuals and families affected by cancer.
