​​​Free baseball clinic gives children and youth the opportunity to build skills, confidence and teamwork

BRAMPTON, ON (August 21, 2026) – Baseball bats cracked, gloves snapped and young athletes took to the field at Morris Kerbel Park as the City of Brampton hosted Baseball Day in Brampton for a second year in partnership with Jays Care Foundation and the Blue Jays Baseball Academy. The event also featured a special appearance by former Toronto Blue Jays centre fielder and Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Devon White.

Welcoming 240 children and youth, this year’s event builds on the success of Baseball Day in Brampton in 2025, which welcomed approximately 200 children and youth. Participants took part in two age-specific baseball clinics led by the Blue Jays Baseball Academy, learning the fundamentals of hitting, throwing and catching while building their skills, confidence, teamwork and resilience.

Each participant received a complimentary Blue Jays shirt and hat, provided by Jays Care Foundation, and free baseball gloves through the Mayor’s Sports Fund. The Fund is supported by proceeds from Brampton’s annual Charity Golf Tournament and helps reduce financial barriers and expand opportunities for Brampton youth to participate in sport and recreation. Since 2024, the Charity Golf Tournament has raised more than $630,000 to support local charities and community initiatives. 

Baseball Day in Brampton is part of the City’s broader commitment to sporting opportunities for young athletes to participate, develop their skills and stay active. Brampton is home to 102 baseball diamonds, including lit and tournament-ready fields that support recreational play, leagues and tournaments. More than 400 young athletes participate in the City’s baseball summer camps and skills-development programs each year. The City is also home to the Field of Dreams at Terry Miller Recreation Centre, a fully accessible baseball diamond developed in partnership with Peel District School Board and Jays Care Foundation which supports inclusive opportunities for players of all abilities.
