International recognition highlights the City's continued commitment to transparent, responsible financial planning
BRAMPTON, ON (August 7, 2026) – The City of Brampton has been recognized for excellence in municipal budgeting for the 11th consecutive year, receiving the Distinguished
Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
Each year, the GFOA recognizes governments that meet nationally recognized standards for budget presentation and financial transparency. To receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the City of Brampton's 2026 Budget was evaluated on how effectively it served as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications tool.
The budget was also assessed against criteria including strategic planning, financial transparency and accountability.
Receiving this recognition for an 11th consecutive year reflects the City's ongoing commitment to responsible financial management and providing residents with clear, accessible information about how public funds are invested. The City's budget includes strategic investments in priorities that strengthen Brampton today while preparing for future growth, including infrastructure, transportation, community safety, recreation, health care advocacy and environmental sustainability. The 2026 Budget also includes a record level in reserves of $178.5 million, supporting the City’s long-term financial sustainability.

Established in 1984, the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program recognizes governments that prepare budget documents meeting the highest standards in public sector budgeting.
