City expands proactive enforcement approach with new pilot focused on recurring neighbourhood concerns and compliance issues
BRAMPTON, ON (June 18, 2026) – The City is introducing a new pilot program aimed at continuing to improve and address ongoing resident concerns related to parking enforcement, property standards, illegal nuisance signs, litter and garbage and other by-law violations.
Beginning June 29, 2026, a dedicated Property Standards Officer and Parking Enforcement Officer will be assigned to a council ward pairing each day, rotating through all ten wards in the city over the course of the week. Officers will conduct proactive patrols in areas identified as having the highest number of service requests, repeat concerns and compliance failures, helping address neighbourhood challenges earlier and improving responsiveness to resident concerns.
The City has also recently expanded the Automated
Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) program, deploying seven units across Brampton and enhancing proactive by-law enforcement measures.
To ensure the effectiveness of this pilot, residents with by-law enforcement concerns are strongly encouraged to submit a service request to Service Brampton by using the Brampton 311 app (available on the App Store and Google Play), visiting 311brampton.ca or by dialing 3-1-1 or 905.874.2000 (outside Brampton). Service request data, recurring enforcement trends, inputs from residents shared by members of Council and other community feedback will support proactive enforcement deployment, helping identify neighbourhoods experiencing recurring concerns and compliance issues. This information also helps identify areas experiencing repeat violations and ongoing challenges.
Comprehensive approach to proactive by-law enforcement
In addition to the new pilot, to strengthen service delivery and improve compliance, the City has implemented several operational improvements and investments, including:
- Continued implementation and enhancements of the City’s ongoing proactive parking enforcement model.
- Introducing increased penalties for repeat offences.
- Enhancing the towing process to address recurrent violations more effectively.
- Increasing patrols in high-priority areas.
- Expanding ALPR technology to support enforcement operations, with seven units now deployed.
- Investing in additional enforcement staff through the City’s 2026 Budget, including 51 new enforcement positions, with 12 officers dedicated to parking and towing enforcement.
- Deploying seasonal bike patrols to support enforcement efforts.
- Deploying 20 seasonal enforcement inspectors, who completed more than 700 proactive inspections and addressed over 1,600 resident service requests within the first weeks of deployment.
These initiatives have enabled officers to resolve complaints more efficiently, respond more quickly to urgent safety concerns and increase proactive inspections and enforcement activities across the city. Together, they are helping improve compliance and support safer, cleaner and more livable neighbourhoods.

Quotes
"As Canada's fastest-growing big city, we have had to address by-law and enforcement pressures at a scale and pace that few municipalities have faced, and that experience has continued to make us innovators by necessity. This pilot program is the direct result of listening to our residents, who are among the most engaged and community-minded citizens in the country. By putting enforcement resources where the evidence tells us they are needed most, we are not only making Brampton's neighbourhoods safer and cleaner, we are building a model that cities across Ontario and beyond can look to as they face their own growth challenges. When residents speak, we act." - Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton
“Every service request represents a resident looking for support, and every neighbourhood deserves to be safe, clean and well-maintained. Through expanded proactive enforcement, education and accountability, we are responding to resident concerns and helping create safer neighbourhoods across Brampton. Learning from large, fast-growing cities like Edmonton as they confront challenging properties reinforces the value of municipalities sharing what works. In response, the City is launching a pilot program that balances resident feedback brought forward by members of Council, enforcement data and operational expertise to strengthen proactive by-law enforcement across Brampton.
