84 per cent of telephone town hall participants support the use of intersection camera technology to assist police investigations and enhance community safety
BRAMPTON, ON (June 1, 2026) – The City of Brampton has completed the deployment of intersection
camera technology, with 50 intersections now equipped with 360-degree cameras and automated licence plate recognition technology.
As the first Canadian municipality to implement this type of system, Brampton continues to lead in using innovative tools to enhance community safety.

The investment in this technology is part of the City’s broader commitment to ensuring Brampton remains a safe place to live, work and raise a family.
The intersection camera technology does not issue tickets. It serves as an important public safety tool, providing Peel Regional Police with critical information and footage to support investigations, strengthen response efforts and help bring justice to victims and families impacted by crime and serious incidents.
The City selected Genetec Inc., a Canadian leader in security technology, to supply video management and licence plate reader cameras. Axis Communications, a Swedish company and global leader in camera technology, is providing the 360-degree cameras.

Last spring, the City installed this technology at 19 intersections in Brampton, resulting in measurable impacts on both community confidence and public safety. To date, it has assisted Peel Regional Police in over 200 investigations, reinforcing the initiative’s value in enhancing both road safety and broader community protection efforts.
In addition, during a recent telephone town hall, 84 per cent of participants expressed support for the use of intersection camera technology to assist police investigations and enhance community safety.
The deployment complements ongoing investments in road and community safety across Brampton, including traffic-calming measures, targeted enforcement and public education focused on safe driving behaviours. For more information, visit brampton.ca/roadsafety.
